So being the scatterbrained person I am, I have wrote about Brandon leaving, and joining the Air Force, but I forgot to mention what job he was assigned. He will begin training at the Military Fire Academy in San Angelo, TX as soon as basic is over. We still don't know the exact length of this training but have read in several places that it is approximately 3 months long. I am very happy about his job assignment, especially after I re-read his list of jobs he signed up for! About a week before we got the call on his job, Brandon was getting tired of waiting and was going to add a few jobs to his list hoping that with more choices he might get an assignment sooner. As we were adding to his list I noticed a job that I didn't remember him requesting...Nuclear Weapons! Brandon swears up and down that he asked me and that I was all for him putting that as an option. I sure don't remember that at all and just thank God that he did not get selected for that position! Another thing that is cool about his job assignment is that Brandon decided his last year of school at K-State that he wanted to become a fireman. So while we were engaged he took fire science classes at Hutchinson Community College, then he got his EMT certifications just before the wedding. For the past 2 years Brandon had been applying at stations all over Kansas, and nothing seemed to pan out.
Then last April he mentioned that he really wanted to join the military. At first I was not too sure about it but I suggested talking to a recruiter and getting more information before making any decisions. In the end we both felt this was the right choice for us, and were amazed at how door were opened for us in the process. (When we felt all doors being shut on us with fire fighting as a civilian) Now here is my chance to brag on Brandon a bit (which he will not be happy about) He took the ASVAB and scored insanely high, to where he could do any job within the military, again we felt like the doors were opened wide for us in this process!
Now Brandon's dream of becoming a fireman is coming true, plus his desire to serve his country is being met as well! I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who supported us in this process, so that Mom and Dad McKinley and Mom and Dad Smart, and of course to all of our siblings! Without these amazing people we wouldn't have done it, and I would not be able to take him being away for so long! We love you all and are so thankful for you all!
