So to my mothers great dissappointment I decided to get a second tattoo while living over here! This was not some spur of the moment decision, and a random selection of art work. I read a book Brigid of Ireland well over a year ago and at the end of each chapter was a design, the Celtic Knot emblem. The Eternal Knot in-particular. This symbol has no clear cut definition that gives us its meaning, but a few of the most popular thoughts on it are:
1) the knot symbolizes union, and eternal bonds of devotion. Essentially, the knot in this perspective is a symbol for love.
2)the knot has an endless nature , and due to it's infinite path, the Celtic knot can represent an uninterrupted life cycle. The cycle of life and death, and birith, death, and rebirth (if you believe in re-incarnation which I don't...however I choose to look at the rebirth part as our transformation after death when we enter Heaven and have eternal life.)
3) Lastly the knot has 3 connected parts symbolizing the trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
I could go on and on with more meanings and such, however I wont bother you with all the details. All I can say is for me I loved the design, and after the loss we suffered after moving here it seemed like the perfect symbol to represent my life...although my mom would probably say I am just full of it and wanted an excuse to get another tattoo :)
